Like this... coach stands at the X and watches to make sre all throws are "legally bounced before the line.

It got it's name because it was initially played from a short distance with just 2 players and 1 ball, and the only rule on the throw was it had to bounce...so as you can image...lots of short hops. The goal was to keep it in front of you... so it took a lot of "guts" to get in front of the hard thrown short hops. Too many bruises and tears...so we modified it to the current version as described above. You can also di it with one ball...but two balls makes it more fun for the girls. The team LOVES it... torture us every practice to play it..... but hey..it's a great drill for fielding ground balls....under pressure.

This one we do indoors but you could modify for outside; We call it Back-Up or Die

2 team (1 defense, 1 offense)

Defensive team has 2 players one at the key (BB Court) and one behind OB line. Their job is to not let any ball by them. when they switch, the backup becomes front player and another in line becomes back up

Offense has 1 hitter (fungo, reg bat) she has to toss it up and hit a ball "fair" (within half court or whatever you designate) and it has to bounce once. If it gets by the 1st fielder - 1 point, if by both - 2 points. Each batter only gets 1 hit. Go through the line up and switch.

If there are a lot of girls - break into 4 teams and use both sides of the court.

But all the girls are on the back line right? So you can throw it at any one? Sounds fun, although a couple doubts come to mind. One is that the worst player is going to get thrown at every time. The other is girls diving into each other.

We do something similar to FR's Guts, but set up enough grids for 2-3 per team, and go with points only (no elimination.) They shift until they make it to the championship or most wins in a timeframe, three games, etc.
