Has anyone compared BA when the AB ends on an 0-0 count(1st pitch) as compared to BA where the AB ends on all other counts?
Ted Williams in his book and video on the "Science of Hitting" encourages hitters to not swing at the first pitch so they can get a better look at what the pitcher has. I have never been one to advocate this philosophy.
Off topic:
I've only seen my DD play 3 games (DIII). I would hate to be a pitcher. It was a tight strike zone. I mean really tight. My DD has always been a 'not taking a 1st strike' hitter but, in college I told her it seems she can be a little more selective. From the limited games I've seen the pitcher had to pretty much throw it down the middle to get a called strike. I also spoke to the starting pitchers dad and asked him if this was the type of strike zone that you have seen so far(last year) and he said yes. I'll keep an eye on this and report back.
