That rule is so stupid...My DD was called for an IP for just such a transgression at 18U ASA Nationals this year.
And that is absurd. Sounds like the umpire was worked into making a call. Would the umpire also tell a pitcher to stop sweating or sit down?
Yes he was worked by the other coach. That exact example (of sweat) was mentioned to the ump by our coach, he was undeterred in his decision.
After the last out of the game the other coach was in a frenzy over what he thought was a D3K to end the game. He said the ball skipped before the catcher caught it. He was yelling at everyone over that, by the time he came unglued his batter had already entered the dugout and the umps were walking off the field. He didn't let his girls shake hands with ours.
