What all is included when calculating batting average?

AVE = H / "official" ABs.

A PA that is not considered an official AB for the batter include: BB, HBP, Sac, SF, CI

I feel I'm missing one but can't place my finger on it.

A batter ROE or FC is an AB but not a H.

At the fields
Lol, is there someplace I can look to see that all the abbreviations mean?
I guess a more direct question is.. does how many times she gets across home plate have any effect on her batting average?

I almost put them in the original post but thought it would be too long.
AB = at bat
H = Hit (single, double, triple or home run)
PA = plate appearance (any time she comes up to bat)
BB = base on balls (or walk)
HBP = hit by pitch
Sac = sacrifice bunt
SF = sacrifice fly
CI = catchers interference
ROE = reached on error
FC = fielders choice

R = run scored and it has no affect on batting average whatsoever.

Hope that helps.

No it does not? She could reach base on 3 errors and score 3 times , but her BA would still be .000

Not here.
OBP=On-base Percentage is another good stat.
Score keeping is subjective. Like CoogansBluff 'hinted' at. Don't get to 'hung up' on batting averages. All I care about is if my DD gets on base. I don't care if by hit,error, walk, hit by pitch ect.... If you don't get on base you can't help your team. The next thing I look at is if my DD hits the ball and doesn't strike out. Your DD can hit/kill the ball but, it seems they find a glove. Batting average stat doesn't show that.

I think other posters assumed that you know more about stats than you do.

Batting average is simply the number of hits divided by the number of at bats.

The tricky part, if you're new to the game is knowing that not all plate appearances (each time you came to bat) are an "at bat" and not all times that you made it to a base safely, are "hits".

A walk, or base on balls, is not an "at bat", and neither are several other situations.

It's not a "hit" if you reach base when a fielder makes an error, or several other situations.
