So Cal
... she was actually 11, sneaking into 10U because of the tournament rules on birthdays...

FYI...She was not "sneaking in" to 10U. Any player with an '04 birthday can legitimately play 10U until the end of this calendar year. Players with b-days early in the year will be 11yo for most of their final year in 10U. This is the same for all age brackets.

I didn't mean it literally. Most 04 girls are playing 12U this fall to prepare for the more competitive spring season when they'll be required to play 12U. For some reason some stay down in the fall. It seems like a handicap to them, but to each her own. Hey, they got a trophy out of it so more power to 'em if that's their main goal. It was actually good for us, an 06 team, because our girls got to see some really good, fast pitching to prep them for this weekend when we're playing in an A tournament with some of the best teams in GA. Hopefully that helped us be a little more prepared. The team in question had at least 4 04 girls picking up with them. I think they had 3 runs scored against them out of 6 teams in the whole tourney, so ya know. I definitely think the weaker teams got more out of it than a bunch of 11 year olds playing down (yes yes, not officially, but based on the standard of what most do at this time of year).

I'm with you. My DD's (mostly) 04 team is playing 12U. However, we have one 02 player who will be with us to the end of the year. She has been out of the game for a little while, and is filling in with us to tune up her skills until she finds a 14U team that is a good fit.

I'm a speed demon.

Its called fastpitch for a reason..... Yes mechanics and accuracy are crucial too. No doubt. However with great power comes great responsibility!
Lol.

Agreed. I have seen some taller 2005, 2006 girls that were fast due to their size, not their mechanics. I think the question here is about speed due to good mechanics. I am all for that!! :) Eventually, those same mechanics will enable the accuracy and spin as they age. The slow kids I have seen at 10u-12u were because their mechanics were poor.

I agree with the PC! Why shouldn't an athletic 2006, getting good instruction, with committed parents be expected to hit 50 at age 10? Average size DD hit 50 on a revfire with an 11" at 35' with 7 months of instruction at age nine. She is closing in on that at 40' with a 12" ball after just turning 10. Revfire not good enough? Maybe she hits 50 with a PR next year? Maybe 50 in game as well? Who cares? The point is I think it's great the PC is encouraging, and challenging, at the same time. :)

9U Nationals we played against a TX team that the pitcher threw consistent 50-52 mph. She was tall for her age and solid, but not a pituitary case. So, it can and does happen.

I will be disappointed if my DD can't hit 50 by end of 10U. She can do it IF she dedicates herself. She threw consistent low 40s with a high of 45 at the end of 9U.

at 10u we pushed just hitting the corners accurately and speed, at that age if your DD has decent speed most batters will be behind so more times than not easy outs, @ 12u worked on painting corners, speed and started implementing the change and drop and testing the other breaking pitches, now at 14u cant stress how accuracy is the most important, speed is a must but takes a back seat to accuracy, and breaking pitches are huge now. my DD is finally getting the rise to work well so im excited for 1st yr 14u to see how she does with tourneys in Desmoin Ia, and Lincoln Ne coming up.

That is a really unreasonable goal unless you DD is large for her age. It is basically saying "grow faster". kids will mature at different rates and you can have perfect mechanics and still have a natural speed limitation for a given size. better to just focus on mechanics and pitching right and the speed will be what the speed will be. she will have big speed increases at 10/11/12/13 that will come with good practice and growth, speed goals are fine too, but prejudging disappointment in a kid if she doesn't hit 50mph by 10u just seems like setting things up for failure.
