My 13 yo DD is starting to learn the spin of the rise ball. Her primary pitches are FB, CU, and Drop...with drop being her best pitch and her CU has really improved the past few months.

Can anyone give me any tips, good video clips, etc. that will help her. I am interested in using the double ball and want to make one of my own. I looked for a video clip on how to use it and I only found one. It looks like if you have correct spin the balls will move together towards the target. If the spin is off one way or another one ball will rotate ahead of the other...is this correct? Or is the double ball not the best tool to use?

Again, we are just working on the spin for right now and see where it goes. Thanks for any advice, tips, or video's you can provide!

My DD is a 14 year old mastering the riseball. We use the double ball occassionallly and I think it helps. Hillhouse is big on the double Ball.

I also made my own double ball. I took too used balls and went to the hardware store and got a two ended screw. Screw half of it into the first ball with a pair of pliers, then screw the second half into the second ball. Not too hard to do.

Some thoughts on the rise:
-Like any spin, the idea is to focus the whip of the finger tips in the desired direction of spin. The thing I don't care for when using tools like spinners, is the focus of twisting the ball with the finger tips and thumb. I think you can get a result that works using the tools and the twisting motion, but I think kids might be better served in teaching them how to whip the finger tips on the right surface of the ball to get the spin.
-Don't worry if you can’t get perfect 6/12 spin. I think getting as close as you can is a worthy goal, but not at the sacrifice of speed. In reality, some very good riseball pitchers don’t get much better than spiral spin. One of the reasons the pitch is so successful for them is speed. It takes both spin and speed to fight gravity and the more speed you get; the lower the need for perfect spin to get the result.
-Experiment with different cues, feels, grips and aids until you find a couple that you like, then fine tune until you really dial one in.

My DD is 13 as well. She was struggling with spin consistency until I showed her the grip in the video below. Video was posted by Boardmember on another thread.

Since we recently switched to palm up on the downswing DD is getting good rotation on the rise ball. DD does a lot of self flips and that has also helped.

It's much easier to use the thumb on a spinner or ball to get good spin without the circle, or with a very easy armswing. However, at full speed, the thumb isn't used to impart spin--it's whipping the fingertips along a surface in the direction you want the ball to spin.
