After the Sheetrock in garage took a beating from trying to use a bownet, I just attached a cable to ceiling using eye bolts and turn buckle. Then used snap shackles to attach a net so it would slide to side if I needed room in garage. Got a cheap rug that hangs behind net on same cable to hit into to deaden ball so net weight isn't needed (first one I bought was too heavy and balls rebounded off of it, so FYI use a light weight rug). Bought net long enough to have extra on the bottom to fold up and make a pocket for balls to drop into so they don't bounce all over garage after hitting concrete floor. Ran another cable on beam in front and left extra net on top to make a ceiling for cage and wrapped net 2' on sides to make walls. Got light gauge net for about $40 (14'x10') from networldbaseball. All totaled approx $60 plus about an hour to construct. Not sure what clearance requirements you are meaning, but this set up worked well for us.

Any pics I'm wanting to do the same thing in our garage. We currently use Bownet in garage with foam jugs balls. Not bad but would like to hit real softballs as well.

Nice...Recognize two horizontal parallel red lines... lookz higher than the ones I use... whats your formula ?

with tee height set mid strike zone on DD & 7' back from tarp, used 84xtan(30) for lower line & 84xtan(35) for upper. Tape keeps peeling off with heat so they have probably creeped as I have re-taped couple times.

Also had to put a piece of conduit through the top of the pocket to get it to stay up. A couple bungees on each side hold it in place.

Definitely like e set ups! Right now I just have a jugs net in the basement, not much free space. Going to try and get a retractable net hung in the garage.

Great thread, enjoy seeing other setups. Last winter I setup a 30x10x9 net from networld in my garage. I would say 9'-10' wide and 9' high (for 14/16 yr olds) is the minimum you need, even had to bungee the ends of hitting area and pull them outward to make sure we had enough room to swing at all pitches. Used this for tee work, front toss and even rigged up a pitching machine to try it. Worked good last Spring.

I bought some extra netting and hoping to make the area a little bigger (maybe 30x17), basically most of the 3 slot garage if I can figure out how to keep everything protected and make it a simple up/down setup. I'll take some pictures when I get it setup again, could be a while as I'm in the middle of cleaning and insulating the garage. Love to see what other are doing too.
