This comes up a lot....

The processes I use is convoluted , out dated, and it cost me $140.00

I bought a Canon Video Camera only to find out that I couldn't edit the AVCHD files, back 6-8 yrs ago. So I bought Pegasus... never heard of it before, but it worked for my camera. Now its no problem...most resent editing programs open the AVCHD.

This was long before I was ever thinking about making .gifs. As I learned why & how to make .gifs... I started out with (free) GIMP.... Its great because you can get the portable version, download it on a flash drive, and move from computer to computer.

Since I had to use Pegasus to Convert, crop, & code my clips, I just stayed with it to make .gif's.... I would not recommend it.... I never renewed.

What is everyone else using??? I know photoshop can and many others. I'm sure everyone would like the best free one.... even if its online.

Whats the best free one used on here... DFP ????

I use GifRocket on my Mac. My issue is figuring out how to post the gif here so that it plays in the post and not as a link!

Go to "Insert Images" (picture icon) click... a box will open with two options... Choose "From URL" then paste your url from where you have it Hosted. Then Un-Check the box that has :Retrieve remote file and reference locally... Then click OK....Then click Post Quick Reply...

i have also been wondering if it is possible to copy gifs that you like and have them on your own laptop or something? do you need the gif making program for that?

No software needed... Just right click on the .gif that's playing... Depending on browser your using... click "Save Picture As" I would put it on desktop.

once you get it on desktop... then put it in a file...anywhere you want. Click on it, and it will open in your browser... I right click on it and choose "Open With" Media Player, so I can use all my player controls :{))

I guess that's the problem - I don't host them anywhere.

For simple gifs...

Use Kinovea to bring in your video.

Now I'll try and explain the screen shots...

Play your video. Find the area you want to gif. In this example, I'm using the start of DD2's swing.

Get to the start of where you want it to start and click the "[" that I have high lighted in the screenshot. Effectively, this is the first frame of the gif.

Untitled.jpg

Play the segment you are trying to gif and then click the "]" that I have high lighted. This will be the last frame in your gif.

Untitled1.jpg

Untitled2.jpg

Click the "double camera in the bottom left that says "save a sequence of images."

I'll continue in a new post...maxing out on embedded images.

So after you select "Save sequence of images" you'll get a slider bar to select the number of images that looks like this:

Untitled3.PNG

Note: The way I'm going to tell you to create a gif maxes out at 30 frame, so make sure you have the slider less than 30 (the slider's numbers will vary clip by clip based on how long/short your segment is).

In my example, I'm saving 25 images. Save them somewhere that you can find them...

Them go to gifmaker.me and upload the 25 images there. Select create gif animation and then select save gif animation. You can tinker with the delay (default 500 ms) as you improve your skills.

Then grab the save gif and go to tinypic.com and upload the gif there...it will give you the link with the correct embedding code.

Select insert image from the toolbar and copy and paste the link from tinypic.

Once you get familiar with this...it takes about 3 minutes to create a simple gif...

For more complicated gifs...

If you know how to use torrents, you can find Ulead out there for free although this may be considered software piracy...
