DD is darling daughter, dollar drainer or any other acronym you care to call your daughter. I/R is a pitching term coined on here which relates to the way a pitchers arm will internally rotate and whip through the pitch versus HE which means hello elbow and is usually indicative of a straight arm pushing the ball through delivery and the elbow will finish by pointing at the catcher.

TMA (Too many abbreviations).

One forum I used to post on even had a thread to explain the different abbreviations.

Here are a few more:

HS High school
D I or D 1 -- NCAA Division I. Similarly, D II, D2 D III, D3 and other permutations refer to other NCAA divisions.
NCAA -- Means NCAA.
HC -- Head Coach
AC -- Assistant Coach
PC -- Pitching Coach
TB -- Tournament softball
SB -- could be softball or stolen base. Check the context.
IF -- infield
OF -- outfield
SS -- I don't give a darn.
10u or 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U -- age groups.

So, here is an example: (not a real situation, so don't give advice)

DD says her 16U TB HC and AC both want HE while her PC teaches her IR. Her HS HC is completely useless, and won't even let her pitch! Sticks her in OF, but she is better at SS or 3B, and might even dump her down in JV. She really seems SOL! LOL! YOLO!

TB -- Tournament softball
QUOTE]

I would like to offer a meaningful clarification/correction to this one:

TB -- Travel Ball (where you have to leave - therefore "travel" - away from the cozy confines of your little rec-ball neighborhood to get some better competition) Now I understand that to you big-metropolis people this could mean your other collar-suburbs and it's not as much "travel", but of course in these big congested areas it might take 4 hours to get 30 miles :)

Yes, TB means Travel Ball, rather than Tournament Ball.

Acronyms can be flexible. A company I worked at for many years had an acronym as part of the company name. At one point they changed what the acronym stood for. Finally, they gave up and just said the acronym didn't stand for anything, it was just letters.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Two of my favorite acronym jokes came from Dilbert.

1. PHB (Pointy Haired Boss) thinks he should start off on his own as a Silicon Valley big shot.

Secretary: I hear the VCs like B2B this year..
PHB: The Viet Cong like Bed & Breakfast?

2. Dilbert wants to start up the TTP project, asks Wally to join.

Wally: What does TTP stand for?
Dilbert: The TTP Project.

Sort of based on stuff like GNU (GNU, Not Unix), etc.

When I first posted to this board about a year ago, I was introduced to the abbreviation, "C.R.I.S." aka, Cranial Rectal Inversion Syndrome. It was used to describe a particular coach we had at the time who was trying to convert our I/R pitching daughter to H/E. At the time, I didn't want to comment because we were still on the team - but I can comment now because the team dissolved, and the coach doesn't frequent this board. JJsqueeze posted, "I sure hope his name is Chris" after that comment. http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-pitching/20863-frustrated-dd-dumb-parents-4.html#post273242

His name was, in fact, Chris. Whenever I need a chuckle, I can look up that thread again and enjoy the fact that life isn't nearly as serious as we make it out to be. ;) When I first read it, I was LSHMSFOAIDMT.
