Haven't posted on here for a few years, but do check in once in a while. Thought I would post a recent front toss video as an update to the journey. Pretty happy where Liv's swing is right now starting her sophomore season in a couple weeks, but we are always working to improve and open to...
NV, I am sure your are going to get a lot of advice on your DDs swing. There is a lot to work on. The good thing is she seems to be very athletic and aggressive. This is just a random person's advice, which i assume you are looking for by posting here, so if you find no value in my observations...
This is such a good post by RHC. I don't post on here very much anymore but this is exactly what I have working on with my DD lately. Being short and sudden and letting the swing plant the front foot. Goal number 1. Don't underestimate the value of this advice. Thanks RHC.
Not sure if her instructor is teaching to get the front foot down that early, but it appears to be having a negative effect on her swing. Her weight goes forward with the stride, stops, and then a little rocker move (negative stride) to get swing going again. My guess would be she has trouble...
1 vote for Mizuno classic fastpitch gsx31 34.5". DD is not a catcher but this is the glove I use to catch her. This is a really nice, high quality mitt. Retails over $200 but can be found on sale for $160 or less. I actually got mine on ebay auction for $70 and that's a steal for this mitt...
I like the leg kick, but she is not getting the benefit from it because she lacks a sequence right now. She has what I would call a gate swing. When she loads back, her hands go back and when she goes forward her hands and bat start forward.
Watch the Bautista video carefully, or better yet, any...
13yo dd plays p, ss, 1b. Uses worth liberty fpx 12.5" (discontinued). Loves the glove, but it is definitely longer than the easton ne 12.5" she had last year.
Picked up the new cf6 insane 32/22 at the coaches convention at mohegan sun last month, 20% off. Slightly different feel than her 31/21 cf5. Maybe a little stiffer, and a slight end load, but dd loves it and can't wait for games to start! (Although with another blizzard last night it is...
Tell her she is doing awesome! And tell her frequently.
There are going to be setbacks where she reverts back to old habits, especially in games, and you are most likely going to get frustrated when that happens. It is important to be prepared for how you are going to handle it mentally...
This sounds like simple, fly by advice but it is very important imo. "Process oriented, not results oriented." She will see the "results" when the "process" is optimized. In other words, focus on trying to make a good swing every time and not simply trying to hit the ball.
