    Pitching bloopers

I am a bucket mom. I got shine guards pretty quick after getting hit in the left knee hard enough to drop me down to the ground. I got beat up pretty bad at her last lesson. This is the same lesson that I also learned to hate drop balls as well. Needless to say, I'm dragging someone else to...

    Pitching bloopers

Last week daughter brushed just a bit too much. Banged hip, ball left hand, dropped to her knees, and rolled over flat on her back. She laid there for a good few minutes laughing and crying. I couldn't look at her. I knew it had to hurt but it was funny.

    A break through moment

Nice work there! I just sent this video to my daughter so she can see. I think we're getting close but not quite there.

Does a change up really change ?

    Touché. LOL.

Is a drop ball a drop ball?

During lesson, while throwing fastballs, PC will occasionally say, "see what you did there? That's perfect drop ball spin". She nor I have no idea what she did different.

Is a drop ball a drop ball?

So if thrown with a fastball grip, what does a girl do different that make is spin 12/6 as opposed to 1/7?

Is a drop ball a drop ball?

I think this answers my question. So if the ball is thrown just like a fast ball, the added tilt in the release makes the ball spin more which causes it to drop. Yes?

    Is a screwball a screwball?

And to clarify. PC said jump to the left 3-4" to set up angle. Throw just like your fastball. I'm not arguing his way. I'm plainly asking if this is the right way, what does the ball do differently than an inside fastball and if nothing, why just not call it an inside fastball? If it does...

    Is a screwball a screwball?

I am serious with my question. I hope that you don't think that I am trying to be argumentative, funny or snarky. I am really trying to determine if I am understanding things correctly. It may very well be that I am not.

Is a drop ball a drop ball?

Yes. I forgot to add the part with the more forward release angle in my description. I will edit to add that.

Is a drop ball a drop ball?

Or is it just a low fastball with a more forward release point? If it is just a low fastball, then why not just call a low fastball? Does a peel drop or turnover drop put a different spin on the ball to make it drop? If I understand correctly, a good drop ball will have a 12/6 spin on it...

    Is a screwball a screwball?

Or is it just a fastball thrown at an angle? If it is just a fastball thrown at an angle, what is/was the point of teaching to turn hand with a hitch hikers thumb? If it is, why not just call an inside fastball? Does throwing it at an angle do something for perception? If it isn't, does the...

LOL. I like that too. Road rash.

    Get That Beef!

I just wanted to share a funny with you all. If you recall, I posted a bit ago saying my daughter was recovering from a pulled muscle. She has healed and we're back to it. We had just started with BI drills before that injury so that's where we started again. Most times I can hear her brush...

Wow! This is an impressive story! Thanks so much for sharing.

One step forward, two steps back

That is an interesting prospect. One that I didn't really consider. As of right now she is probably #4/5 pitcher on her team. Her short term goal was to work hard through the winter to get up to #2/3 (or higher) in the spring. She is the only pitcher for her middle school team so she will...

One step forward, two steps back

Sounds like we have two little peas on a pod. Haha! (Not funny really). She and I did discuss giving up pitching and focusing on other areas as she is a pretty good hitter and is versitle on the field. We didn't pitch for a few weeks thinking it was a done deal and she came back to me telling...

One step forward, two steps back

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. She is committed to work hard and putting in the time. Thanks javasource for the redband reminder. I'm gonna go take a look at it.

One step forward, two steps back

My DD (13-1/2) has been pitching for just over a year. I use that term loosely as it seems just as she gains some momentum, she injures herself that keeps her for pitching for weeks or months at a time. In the last year she's broken her ankle in two places sliding in to second, had a long...

    Has she been lurking DFP?

I totally get it. Do we really want to share our trade secrets? HAHA!
