So I am a coach on my daughter's 14U team, and I'm also handling most of the recruiting chores (talking to coaches at showcases and camps, handing out brochures, etc). The team had a successful season this fall and got some interest from a number of coaches, mostly mid-level D1. All the players have been writing their letters and generally doing what they should be doing.

The question is, I know that as a coach/recruiting person I'm allowed to contact college coaches. But what about when it's my own daughter being recruited? I've been approached by a couple of coaches at tournaments and camps now, expressing serious interest and asking for her to visit their campus. They ask for a coach to call them and set up a visit. Can I call? Or do I need to ask another coach to do it?

I was in the same position. Are you registered on some type of website or this program's information about team coaches? If so, I believe you are just fine.

Our head coach and his two assistants are listed on the team recruiting page and all the coaches to some degree talk to the college coaches. There have been a couple times where the college coaches didn't want to talk to the parent coach but most don't have any issues. Your good to go.

Anybody can call a coach. Coach just can't call you. Even regular parents can call a coach, but you only want to do that if you know the call is welcomed. For my DD's first unofficial visit, the college coach asked that I call her, and I was just a regular parent. They wanted me to schedule the visit, let them know when we were available, etc. So calling coaches is fine, if you know it's a call they would want to get.

We had a recruiting coordinator and a head coach, the recruiting coordinator handled most of the duties, but if a college coaches inquired about the recruiting coordinators DD the coach was referred to the HC for follow up.

If the parent coach isn't the head coach, then they should not call college coaches on behalf of their daughter. There is no way a parent coach would give an unbiased assessment. That's my personal experience.
