Fire the coaches you don't want to keep AFTER the school year starts so the incoming recruits are stuck as they are enrolled and already attending class.

(Yes this just happened locally)

A true BS move. As if they didn't know weeks or even months earlier that they were going to fire them.

Just another reason you want to make sure that the school you choose is a good fit for more than just softball.

Yes, it is unfortunate. I worked in collegiate athletics administration for over a decade and have seen it many times. But remember the other side of the coin.... Kids quit, transfer, fail to perform to expectations, flunk out etc. all putting coaches jobs at risk. While we all talk about how unfair it is for the kids remember that these coaches jobs are always on the line as well. Every softball coach I know advised me to have my kid pick a school based on the SCHOOL and its academic programs based on the fact that anything can change at any time... Coach leaving...dropping the program, scholarship cut, kid decides to quit, etc.... Once our KIDS get to college...they are in an adult world...they better get prepared for all sorts of unsettling changes...fair or not.

Something is amiss here. Typically coaches have a contract, often year to year. I would think it would be difficult to dump a coach in the Fall simply to go in another direction.

Nice rich university, softball coach doesn't make much really. They just paid out the contract. In exchange, officially the coach has 'stepped down' or 'decided to resign' rather than be officially fired, which will likely help them get their next position (as they didn't cause a public mess when it happened).

Tell us about the replacement - are they coming from in-house or another school?

Kent State's coach just stepped down and her replacement is the former HC from UND that came to KSU in Jun/July 2014.
