Is there any way to auto connect the GoPro app to the camera?

Not sure what you are asking but it will connect automatically through the cameras Wi-Fi feature once the camera and phone are properly set up.
But each time you turn the camera off you have to reset the wireless app/remote to on.

The short answer is no...the medium answer is, it depends.
Which camera? If the Hero5, the connection is a bit faster than in previous cameras and previous app updates. However, when you turn your phone off and/or close out of the app, you will have to manually reconnect. It does take some time to get back to the control to start or stop recording. However, if it is the Hero5, I highly recommend the REMO remote. This remote is very stable and can easily start and stop the camera from a distance. I will say that while this, in my opinion, is the only usable GoPro remote they have released, the range is also far less than any other remote. However, it still works very well and you don't have to wait on your phone to reconnect to the camera. And the voice commands are the cat's meow. "GoPro Highlight" is my favorite. Makes it very easy to remotely highlight an item in a recording.

Using the Hero 4+ Silver. Is the REMO remote compatible with this camera? Sounds like I'm doing the best I can with using the GoPro app with the camera. No problem I was just thinking it might be set up like my cars whereby the car radio automatically connects to my Bluetooth.

Thus far only been using the GoPro software to edit videos. Search old threads people have recommended other software programs. Was thinking about trying other software programs but so far haven't been able to find much free time.
The REMO is only compatible with the HERO5 Black ans HERO5 Session. Sorry.
But there is a highlighting feature in the Hero 4. You can use the side button directly on the camera. But you should also be able to use it from the phone app. See the link for GoPro's description of the process for the Hero 4 cameras:
