Just curious as to what some of the pitching gurus look for in batters to decide what pitch to throw in what location. What do you look for in the swing, stance, position in the box and situation? What pitch do you call for each scenario?

Low and outside
If they foul off to the opposite side, throw hard inside. If they jerk a ball foul to the pull side, go soft outside. Divide the plate in halves or thirds, or smaller depending on age. Never throw the ball down the middle unless you *need* a strike.

I like a pitcher who doesn't believe in "hitter's counts" and "pitcher's counts." DS was pitching 13-15 Babe Ruth one night, and got himself into a 3-1 count. Opposing coach says to the hitter, "It's YOUR count now." Next two pitches were called-strike curveballs.

What's the theory on pitching to a slapper?

I like throwing inside to a slapper, preventing them from getting their arms extended and hitting the ball to the opposite field. I will call curve balls and drop curves from a RHP. A back door screwball is also a great pitch if the pitcher can throw it.
