Was watching a game on Friday between a top D1 team and a JUCO. JUCO made an error in the bottom of the 6th inning allowing the go ahead run to score to make it a 4-3 ball game. JUCO bats in the top of the 7th and does not score, but instead of the ball game ending 4-3, the home team (D1 school) batted in the bottom of the 7th.
Not only did they bat in the bottom of the 7th, in a game they had already won, the JUCO put in their 4th string everything. The pitcher proceeded to walk 4 or 5 batters, give up a couple of hits and in no time the score is 9-3. After they were up 9-3 with one out and the bases still loaded they called the game. BTW - this was the first game of a double header.
Is this common? Did they do this to give the JUCO's 4th string an inning or did the D1 not want the final score to be so close against a JUCO team?
