So, many of you know that I coach 16 girls on my middle school team. I coach 3B while I let one of the girls coach 1B, and I grab whomever I can to keep score.

10 games into the season and I'm finally getting around to entering the games into Game Changer and holy crap - my scorekeepers suck.

My question is: who coaches a base and keeps score at the same time? I almost never know how many outs or the count and I think it'd be incredibly difficult for me, but I don't see any other way to improve the accuracy of the stats.

I have coached and kept score at the same time, but neither of them with my full attention. It is next to impossible to keep track of both with complete concentration. Its a lot easier if you arent worried about keeping a full book, but if you are trying to keep track of everything a scorekeeper is suppose to you just dont have time to also coach the game.

As far as I am concerned a book needs to be kept because it is required, I would not worry about it.

I just like the batting stats for making my lineup, so I would like more info.

This is my concern.

I used to keep them while on the field, but if I had to do it again (I no longer coach a team), I would delegate. Comp is right.

Just check the stats while the game is still fresh in your mind. You can fix mistakes then.

I coach a 16U summer team and I do the score book from the 3rd base box, simply because I only trust myself to put the details in that I need to help my players out (particularly my pitcher and defenses - where did the ball get hit to, was her strikeout looking or swinging, did she get on for a UC3K - she'll swing at low pitches, etc.) A lot of scorekeepers who are parents/players just barely do the fact the runners got on base. I want to know HOW/WHY, when, etc. Does it mean my focus is a little inattentive? Potentially, but that's why I have 2 assistant coaches and the fact that my players SHOULD (big quotes around that) be disciplined enough to focus on what should be done.

I don't think you could recreate a game from a book kept by HS players in Game Changer. My ipad died one day and I continued on with the book. Amazing how much detail I left off when trying to enter it into GC at a later date.

I can't imagine score keeping and doing anything else. I can't even talk to anyone when I'm keeping score. I use iScore which is pretty user friendly. It'd probably be easier to recruit a parent or something with that or Game Changer than with an actual book. I've had to recreate a game before from the paper book someone else kept and it was pretty bad. Nowhere near the level of detail I prefer. But I love the stats personally.
