Game after game, one bad inning and no one calls a time out. It is like the coach thinks that it isn't allowed or something.

Case in point, game going very well for a 12U travel team. It is hot and playing in Phoenix. Game is tied 4-4, in the 4th. Pitcher overthrows 1st base, then, first baseman makes 2 errors - no time out. 8 runs score.

Why just sit and watch the wheels fall off? Go out and say something. Switch a couple of players. Take the catcher some water. ANYTHING!

I've seen this so many times. The timeout finally gets called, the girl who just isn't on her game gets pulled, pitcher gets switched, etc. after it's too late to matter anymore.

Been trying to teach our Catchers when to Call time and go out and talk to the infielders - just to stop the game and give everyone a second to regroup.

I called a timeout and the pitcher yelled at me, well under her breath type of yell that I didn't need to call a time out. I said alright and slowly meandered off the field. She got her groove back. Imagine that.

We were playing a team that we are quite equal skill level wise with. Beat them 11-9, tied once and this game we were down 10-3. They were just locked on to our pitching. Used all three. Anyway, we started banging the ball in the last inning (we were home and time was up so no new inning). 10-5, 10-7, then 10-9. Coach was furious. Called time and called everyone in and flipped out on them. Like veins popping out, face beat red flipping out. Girl hits a fly ball to right and the player dropped it. Granted it would have been a sportscenter top 10 if she caught it but it was still amazing even though she dropped the sno cone when her glove hit the ground after the dive. Coach calls time and replaces her. Next batter hit a two rbi double to end the game 11-10 us. It seemed to me that time out made them worst.

Guilty of Both, Had a 12-2 lead, shell shocked when an over throw from our centerfield throwing catcher aired one our and two runs were scored not stopping the run we(I) had 14 runs scored on us before I could even speak. (yes I have kicked my azz on that) . I should have called Time Out, Lesson Learned. But after the Game a well known Coach came over. He smiled and said "I been there " ! . What ! I said he said He had 22 runs put on him in the last inning before. He smiled and said I was hopping you would beat my record today and "carry the burden". I was just like you were we got stuck in the "I ant Believing This" for too long . I smiled and said I hope to never top that one . Time Out Back Fire! A fellow Coach call time out and scream at team the more she screamed the more my team was getting fired up. My girls fueled off that and pounded them for real, these girls are ruthless :)

"Get a TO, Baby!"
I also like to see the catcher or another infielder call time and try to gather it up. Sometimes that takes prompting and some kids just don't understand that they're not usurping your authority by doing so. I had a 1B who was very good at that a couple years ago.

One time I went and stood in the open dugout gate, minding my own business, when I look over at DS, who is struggling on the hill, and he gives me the furrowed-brow "shoo" wave. I give him the "What?" face, and he does it again. I let him pitch out of it.

Aren't the coaches jumping out of their socks to call timeout when things go bad? That feeling is awful so I don't know how they stand it, especially since they have so many coaches helping out (average I see is 4)....what else could you be concentrating on?

In certain circumstances, I have been known to say, "Nothing to do but let them play."

There is always something that I can do, when the wheels are falling off. One thing I do, is always ask if there is anything wrong that I don't know about. Once, I got a reply that our second baseman's dog had died that morning. See, I didn't know that, but I knew something was wrong.

I can tell them where the next play might need to be, I can reinforce that we are up by 2 runs, this gal struck out the last 2 times, don't give the second batter anything near the plate, "talk it up out here!", let's get the out at first base, even if it means giving up a run, and so on.

Many pitchers aren't even told, where they are in the batting order. I had a 14 yo tell me, that she had NEVER been told anything at all about the batters. It was a friendly and I walked up and said "You've got number 9 coming up and then, the top of the order." She looked at me, like "Finally, someone is helping me."

Would you come in and help coach our team?:)
