Why so much talk about pitching speed?

Question: Can your softball pitchers play catch throwing underhand? You know, standing 40 feet apart, can they toss the ball back and forth as easily as if they throwing overhand? Or, do they have to go through the entire, tortuous windup every time they throw the ball underhanded?

Sorry, this is funny. Everytime I turn my back on my 12U team they are ALL playing catch underhand and "pitching" when they are supposed to be warming their arms up...lol

Speed is good. We have three pitchers and our slowest throws mid 50's our fastest close to 60. The problem with our fastest is she relys heavily on throwing the ball past hitters and we are now 14U and the hitters are catching up. Our slowest moves the ball well and is very accurate to her spots so she gives the other team fits. I would say no matter how fast they throw they must change the speed up throughout the at bat. If you have a girl who is blowing it by the other team then don't change anything until they start hitting her.
