Just behind home plate
My coaches largely allow me, as a catcher, to call the game. Unless they want a certain batter pitched to a certain way and they know what they're doing. But as a catcher, we see what's working and not working for a pitcher in a ball game and as the game is going along, we can change gameplans accordingly. The pitcher also has to be in agreement as well. But, our coaches work with us to make sure our charges are locating pitches and are framing close strikes as best as possible to give our pitchers more strikes.

The catcher gives signals to the pitcher based on what the pitcher wants to throw. Despite the fantasy in Major League (The Movie) the pitcher is calling the shots.

The catcher calls and the pitcher has the ability to shake it off. There might be disagreements but the catcher calls the majority of the game.
