There have been arguments recently in our area regarding who takes pregame 1st.

My opinion is that it should mirror a real inning with the hometeam in the field 1st.

There is a woman who coaches another school who screamed at us " are you gonna take infield or what?" when we were at their field.

What is the rule of thumb?

Hometeam takes infield last, then the game starts with no switching, they are already out there.

Since you didn't know, she should have walked up to you and said "you can take your IF, now." And yes, home team is always last.

Homefield last, but often times in this region, home team wamrs up, players finish with 1-2 balls of a shovel throw or something the team organized, then lines up and awaits her NEXT teammate coming in. We generally finish with catcher getting 2-3 pitches from a coach for throwdowns to 2B, sometimes one to 1B and one to 3B. but we DON'T stay on the field, but line up, team high fives and then a team chant or something.

Interesting. Here we have the home team take it first, then the visiting team. Both teams come back to the dugout after IF with the coaches meeting at the plate for the meeting with the umpire.

This season though, our team has opted not to take an IF. We just got into a rhythm without it as a result of playing so many tournaments pre-season where no one gets an IF. Since it's been working well, we're running with it. Our pre-game is the same no matter where we are or what the allowed format is.
