When using a round, collapsable Jugs hitting screen and doing soft toss, do you have the girls try to hit the ball straight into the net? I've been doing soft toss and I get some girls hitting the ball over the screen-which is a pain.

I've seen JO teams at tournaments using the same screen with good hitters drilling the ball into the net, so I'm wondering if it's more of an aiming thing. I have them standing close enough so that they don't hit the net with the bat, but almost.

I don't want to encourage swinging down on the ball, but hitting straight should be ok.

I'm thinking it is an aiming thing. No matter where the ball is, hit it straight.

When I'm doing tee work and soft toss I want my hitters to hit line drives. Grounders and balls flying over the net could be an indicator of a mechanical flaw. Of course, sometimes during soft toss they are just hitting the ball according to how it is being tossed. Anything over the waist has the potential of going over the net.
