Was at clinic last weekend. Two d1 coach's both said "you can learn a new pitch when you have absolutely mastered that last one." New Mexico coach (Beach pitched for ASU) has a drill that the girls must hit the spot (colored home plate) with 5 out of 6 throws, or it laps, push ups, etc. They all agreed that it's good when a girls comes to college with lots of pitches, but it is absolutely neccessary that they have at least 3 mastered! Beach said she gets girls coming in and she asks "what pitches do you have, and they throw out drop, rise, screw, curve, drop curve, slider, back door, and etc." Then she asks "what is your GO TO pitch?" and too many times the answer is something like "well they are all my go to." She said that tells her the girls has a handful of average pitches and that doesn't cut it in D1, you must have a couple of great go to pitches that you have mastered.
