I feel this is malicious contact by the runner putting her head down and taking our the fielder's legs. What say you?

Yeah, while she does lower her head, the base was still 5 feet behind the fielder. It looks like she was just trying to get to the bag. Looks worse than it probably was.

That was a mess all the way around. An entire practice could be designed around how to defend that better.
But I don’t think you would call that anything other then an out.

I hate watching stupid base running like this, especially when the team is falsely rewarded for it like in this scenario. It’s also why we teach our fielders to tag very firmly and always low - in case the runner decided to do as this runner did.

The best (and worst) part of the whole thing is the parents cheering when she was safe. Clueless.

When they switched to the umpire view my first thought was “have youth parents gotten so bad that umpires are wearing body cams like police?”

Stand in base path while a runner is comming.
Equal territory!

Solution
Learn to hold on to the ball!
And/or
Adjust where fielder is standing.

Runner took huge risk diving into person.
Would have probably slid feet first.

Ps.
For those that are viewing her helmet as a weapon?
Would you prefer steal cleats!
