Never? Care to share reasonings?
Yes never for me. Picks at first only.

Its slow and forces bad mechanics breaking the kinetic chain of throwing. Just never seen a decent reason to do it personally or teach it. Its also a good way to wreck your shoulder and elbow

I was catching when Santiago was the rage. The myth was busted quickly

Thats your thoughts.

Here are mine.
From teaching catching over 30 years! So not just my personal playing experience, includes many catchers of different shapes, sizes, abilities and age.
Throwing from knees
Is not slow. And not slower.
It greatly helps some.
While others feet is good.
However there are those dirt pitches that need throws too!
Jumping to feet simply takes extra time that the quickness or not of the athlete should be taken into consideration.
Couple examples.
For instance have very tall catchers one is 5'11".
She is incredibly faster from knees!!! Basically cuts her length in half.
Have larger (hefty) catchers who's footwork is good but explosive body slow.
Again knees help tremendously for pop times.

Throwing mechanics from knees are tools that are good to know and be able to use.
Especially for back picks they are less detectable to on base runners.
...than jumping to feet.

EXTREMELY helpful recovering and throwing dirt pitches!
Can field from knees and transition directly into throw zero down time! ( no block)
= Faster pop times!
Throwing from knee's even with dirt pitches (recorded via video and timing in videos)...under 1.7 even on dirt pitches to 2nd base!
Have 13 years olds throwing from knees 1.8's to 2nd
Not slow!
Pop times to 1st/3rd 1.3
*Very common to have catchers throwing under 1.8 to 2nd.
In fact its a goal!

Others catchers may block every dirt pitch.
Then need to pick it up and throw. To then jump to feet can be extra time consuming.
Knee's is the shorter route to throwing.

Throwing speeds from feet and knees are also recorded.
It is generally found that throwing speeds are equal.
Tho its true some do throw slightly faster from either...
Knees or feet. Only slightly.
Should be noted~
*The time savings benefit of throwing from knee's is by far an equalizer for some catchers!

As for thoughts on arm injury.
Mechanics and using body correctly keep body healthy.
Arm/shoulder injury is just as possible throwing from feet!

Should be noted there are a variety of throwing mechanics out there!
There are certain mechanics would NOT do.
*Certainly mechanics i prefer!
This statement includes throwing from feet. There are some mechanics from feet would do. Not others!

Personally teach all my players how to throw from their knees. Comes in quite handy.

Never have had body pain issues coaching or teaching knee's mechanics.

Have you put a gun on the throws? Is the catcher otherwise quick and athletic? What do her game time pops from her feet look like?

Video available in catchers forum. Can post again i guess.

Yes will comment the D1 coaches and their equiptment are good tools!
Always fun when they show up for a player assesment and set up speeds guns, video.
Clinic/Camps and that equiptment.
Parent owned and operated.
(Some really techno nitty gitty timing tools. @erniekru has posted about)

Surely your aware how individual video gets broken down to assist in development in many sports.

Have additionally encountered befor and after times.
Both feet and knees recorded.
Befor with old mechanics
and after new mechanics.
No guess work. Facts!

Wonderfully have College coaches as well travel contact me in recognition of the development of athletes they were looking to recruit, then did. Have established knowing Travel ball coaches from the athletes results. Which over the years have opportunities for catching clinics as resources for catchers.
Beyond private teaching schedule.

I had dinner with 2 very well known college coaches and talked catchers with them last night. Not a big deal

What did radar show regarding ball speed from knees vs from feet? I've shot a lot of radar and gotten paid for it. Just curious about what you've seen
