I just heard from a friend whose kid plays 10U Rec ball north of Houston. He said that their league is gonna start back up in May and All stars are a go too. Wow. That's crazy.
lets see if this plan holds upI just heard from a friend whose kid plays 10U Rec ball north of Houston. He said that their league is gonna start back up in May and All stars are a go too. Wow. That's crazy.
Use this time on your soap box to create memories and an altenitive plan to avoid your pending devastation. If a high school season is that important maybe a new hobby is in order.
You have a young lady, who has probably been playing softball from an early age, and has probably dedicated a whole lot of her time and effort to developing her skills in the game. She's probably one of the best players in her area because she has worked her @$$ off for all those years, and softball is probably one of the defining activities in her life. Now, she's in the final season of playing on a team that represents not just her and her teammates, but also her classmates, her school, and her home community. She's the only one of the current team who has worn the jersey 4 years in a row, and the team is expected to be a contender for a State Championship title - something that only 1 team in the whole state will achieve. Sure, the team won the State title last year, but it's extra-special when it's your senior year. This year was her one and only chance to have all those things come together...and the rug got pulled out from under her.
I would absolutely expect her to be emotionally devastated. This isn't a flaw. This is the reaction of a passionate and dedicated player who gives a damn.
As that player's dad - who has been right beside her since her softball journey started all those years ago - I would feel pretty emotional, too. And then I would help her regain her focus for whatever the path ahead is.
Hopefully, that path includes more softball.
I feel bad for all the 2020 seniors. All the other athletes have at least one more year. So they can work at home to improve for 2021, but the 2020 seniors, for many, this was their last year playing organized sports..... forever.....I feel for them. For us old folks we understand it's really not that important in the grand scheme of life, but for an 17/18 year old their senior year is a big deal........ On a good note.....I am enjoying the sales replacing everything that needs to be replaced at huge discounts....YEA!! YEA!!Use this time on your soap box to create memories and an altenitive plan to avoid your pending devastation. If a high school season is that important maybe a new hobby is in order.
Agree! Everyone should be able to respond/react in their own way!People react and grieve in many different ways. Just because it’s not the way you (general you) would react doesn’t mean it’s wrong or unhealthy. Heck, if it weren’t for my sense of humor getting me through some devastating situations I would have burned out and left my line of work 20 years ago.
My DD is the only senior on a team that won the State Championship last year and was favored to do it again this year. Needless to say, if this season is canceled, she (and I) will be devastated.
Live on Long Island and have heard some of the rationale on trying to get season going but truly believe we need to look at big picture. Sucks especially for seniors who are going to lose their last opportunity at competitive sports. Just dont see it happening. All of us unfortunately must deal with this now so that the highest % of people will be around in the future to continue on and play in the future.I just read a article here in NY saying if we could get back to school by May 1st, we could play a full 18 game season, if mid May, we could play a 12 game season, if by June 1st, no season. A bit of hope, but I still say we not going back at all this year.
