Reading the different discussions on how people interpret what to call pitches~
Brought this post which is really about describing pitch movement and locations.

If i were a pitcher i would throw a
Rise
Drop
Change Up

* knowing that all 3 can be thrown with a TWIST in the spin.
* will create extra movement.
* for extra deception!

Rise= straightish pitch that moves up.
Can also be thrown to bend inside by twisting spin up inward (screw'ish)
Can also be thrown to bend outside by twisting spin outside (curve'ish)

Would i call all 3 a rise?
Hmmm? NO. ~ Because~
How would those 3 seperate pitches and locations be called in games?
*To set up a batter
will need signals to identify pitch calling.
1. Rise
2. Rise/screw
3. Rise/curve

Now my drop.
Drop straight pitch goes down.
Can be thrown with a twist to break inside or outside.
4. Drop
5. Drop/screw
6. Drop/curve

7. And of course change up.
(Can pick your spin of choice.)

Just want to make a point on description.
As a catcher communicating to a pitcher,
and a hitter sorting through pitches to hit,
*Or a pitcher talking about what they throw~
these are all different pitches.
With different movements/or finger pressure/or grip needed to produce them.
and different adjustments needed to hit them.
With control they can be valuable.
*Even just one variation brings value.

How do you describe moving pitches?
How about your pitchers,
Can they put a twist on it?

Daughters throwing target is a car tire set in front of a net about foot half off the ground.
Fielding work they try to throw threw it. Pitcher always worked on throwing around it. At 12u we put clock numbers on it. She started working locations going around and back. Hitting the spots and trying to throw outside the tire.
When her spin and speed picked up movement followed. By 14u she started missing the tire more and more. She had ability to control her drop going under the tire in and then turn it out also.
By 18u she used her rise as both an inside pitch but could also curve it up and out. She attributes her control to the tire in the backyard.
That tire has been in the backyard for so long its in the family photo album.
