Cancellation policy states USSSA keeps 20% of entry fee—even if entire tournament was rained out from the start.

Their rules—which they do fully disclose up front.

Thoughts on that policy vs other orgs? Wondering how it compares.

That is a sticky one ... it isn't great optics if you are the team paying to play. However, an organization has plenty of expenses (time and/or dollars) sunk in even if the tournament doesn't happen.

It's kind of like complaining about paying so much for food at a restaurant when you can make the food at home for a fraction of the cost. The raw ingredients aren't the only expense (or the only thing you are paying for).

PGF Florida is as follows:

RAIN OUT POLICY- This is always a touchy subject however our rain out poilicy is in line with all other brands of softball and we will do everything possible to make the event playable. If the event is cancelled prior to the team will get a full refund or credit minus any expenses incured for the tournament up to 15% for regular events, up to 25% for big prize events such as bats, gloves or other like prizes.

On game day -
0 GAMES PLAYED - 75% REFUND- $25 off next event
ANY PORTION OF 1 GAME PLAYED - 50% REFUND
1 GAME AND ANY PORTION OF 2ND GAME - $50 OFF NEXT EVENT
2 GAMES PLAYED - NO REFUND, $25 OFF NEXT EVENT
NO REFUND OF GATE FEES

Please Note: The success of Florida PGF events for its participants requires months of administrative planning, securing fields and staffing, renting and purchasing supplies along with other associated costs in preparation. These expenses are incurred regardless of extenuating circumstances.
Therefore, it is necessary to have these refund policies in place.

Our local park runs USSSA tourneys:

For a full rain out we generally offer 80% refund or credit towards the next tourney. You would be surprised by how many teams never request a refund or make it hard for us to refund them.

Somewhere in the 15%-25% seems to be about the going policy.

That’s crazy. We are a small team that leans heavy on fundraising and trying to maximize every dollar. If we have a complete rainout we make sure to either get the refund or utilize the credit right away.

I’m not one to leave money on the table.
