All except for graduating seniors have something a bit more important than the SB season to deal with over the next few weeks.... It is a shame that the only Finnish heritage college in the country is closing its doors, but enrollment has been down at Finlandia for many years.

Anyone else see this?..

Four games into the season they kick the kids to the curb.
Similar thing happened to my DD her freshman year at a private university - they decided that they were short on funding, starting pitcher got hurt in fall ball and was out for the rest of the school year so they dissolved the softball team. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to honor her scholarship through the end of the school year. And it was the end of her softball career.

We've had a few universities around here "abruptly" cease operations in the last several years, all with sports teams.

Never good.

Finlandia University ... FU may seem apropos to some people.

In the last six years, we've had two D2 schools either close or shutdown their athletic programs here on Long Island. One merged with their other campus in Brooklyn, which is D1. The other, Dowling College, shuttered its doors after the 2105-2016 school year.

Unfortunately, it happens. Dowling had been on life support for years because of poorly run finances.

we were supposed to play them in a pre-season dome tourney a few weeks ago...schedule got changed and never faced them. Gotta feel bad for every student there.

They’ve been walking the line for the past few years….it was a matter of time. 300 students this year and with all the sports, approximately 120 of them were athletes. Unfortunately the school struggled in about every sport they participated in but it was a place to play for some that maybe didn’t have the talent to play at a higher level. It’s a tough environment up there and their spring outdoor athletic teams play most games on the road because snow doesn’t leave until usually May.
