No, nada, zip, zero contact of any sort until summer of Junior year. Sign an NLI a year earlier during Junior year. Verbal in June or July and sign in November. Both sides get to put up or shut up.

I read somewhere where the NCAA rules committee was looking into making a verbal commitment a legally binding thing and it would carry a 1 year scholarship with it so verballing a young recruit would commit the college to at least a 1 year scholarship. This would stop early recruiting. IMHO

This is nothing more than legal shenanigans and doublespeak. In most states a verbal contact is as binding as a written contract. However, it is not enforceable.
