TTB and Lag

It's been a while but I thought I'd add 2 cents.
Lag means the barrel isn't accelerating. It's a delay.
Other than for timing purposes, why would you want to delay barrel acceleration?
Furthermore, if lag is only in the hands and the rest of the body continues to turn or gain ground, does the meaningful distance over which the barrel can be accelerated diminish? Wouldn't that limit the bat speed at contact?
