The bigger the car, the more gear you will wind up carrying. Going bigger will not solve the problem, unless the problem is you want to buy more gear. Find what’s comfortable for everything else you do and force the gear to fit that. Not the other way around.

We thought that very exact thing about 6 months ago when we bought my wife an explorer. The kids (8,11 & 13) are all ready complaining that it's too tight.

We have an 05 Toyota Sequoia. Currently at 260k miles. However, as others have said, pack smart and you won't "need" an SUV. For longer trips we still use my Toyota Camry, considering the mileage is literally double. Just gotta play the proper game of Tetris with the trunk space. :)

F150 crew cab here. i have the 3.5L engine so the gas mileage is fairly good. no complaints at all fits kids and gear with room to spare
