Transfer after 1st semester?

I just found out about a local kid that is transferring to a different school a few miles away at the semester break. She is a very good player. The new program is bigger/shinier and is a more desirable school regardless of sports, but the softball program is good and has a great stadium.

So what does it take to transfer mid-year like that? I assume the old program has to agree to release her?

I’ve wondered about this also, I’m sure the current school must release the player, but what if there was a scholarship involved how does that work, do you just forfeit it and hope for the best? Can you gauge interest before you hit the portal?

I know that some players went back to the TB coach to help with this, not sure if that was before or after. My guess is that you aren’t supposed to do anything before, but wink wink.

Yeah, well in this case the TB coach is (suprise!) now an AC at the new school, and at least one TB teammate is there. Plus they have a few commits from the TB team.
