Another post about fitment of gear. In particular a low chest protector exposing the body.
Brought to mind this post.

*Throat guards for catchers.
Simple inexpensive safety
Yet i dont see these being used much at all.
How about you all
Any catchers wearing one?

Here some old school irony.
Throat guard no helmet.
If i remember correctly throat guard was mandatory??!

DD does not, with new catchers hockey style helmets (skull caps not permitted now in most youth sanctions), she feels like it actually kinda gets in way when she drops head while blocking, these helmets go further down than old school masks.

Yes the masks do. And yes they can clunk around!
These helmet styles actually were available years back.
Low metal cage below chin.

The throat guard is more of a
When the catcher is moving up or looking up
Say on a high pitch. Then mask moves up with face
And a foul ball comes straight back beneath.

Can see left mine loose just dangling into chest protector.
When chin up it does cover an exposed area...

Seperate note:
I prefered that type of mask because if threw it off immediately!

two piece (skull cap and umpire type mask) simply not allowed in any youth sanction (not certain about HS) that I am aware of . specifically checked ASA/USSSA, forbidden.

DD does not wear throat guard except where required by governing body (LL requires in their tournaments). Hated having to wear it. She leaves her mask on at all times, including pop ups and plays at the plate.

Yikes 🤪 the Two piece terrible fitment, balance and weight issue's.
Only to be made worse by the added weight of the longer chin version masks.

...see if i can dig out a picture of another catcher with one.

was not commenting on how well two piece fit/worked, simply not allowed in any youth sanction. never looked into because she cant wear it. and honestly, she is now used to hockey style, doubt she will ever change. she likes lots of protection.
