There is ample data that restrictions control the spread of viruses and again without knowing what would have happened in CA had they not put the restrictions in place, you cannot say they didn't work just by comparing to a different sample. That said, if they are not adapting to improved knowledge that is a problem....I cannot say one way or another whether that is the case or not.
Almost a year since lock downs and many still not lifted including in person education.
They've failed.

And Florida has a significantly more elderly population, more transient population mainly coming from states who were most hardly hit (NJ/NY) and was last to establish mask mandates. Never closed schools, or adapted draconian measures to control the population.
Florida is a borderline textbook example of a contrast to the lockdown states. One of the main reasons the MSM doesn't speak about Florida covid cases.

Florida is surrounded by water on 3 sides.

California has a 140 mile long border with Mexico.

There are more people over 70 in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties than in all of Florida.

South Dakota never had a mask mandate.

Sunlight degrades the virus.

But

Facts and data are no match for minds that are not open to them. (Anyone remember last December, when the low rates of virus in CA were being attributed to a secret herd immunity?)

Moderators really need to shut this thread down.

USA
The so called "experts" who many politicians are supposedly relying on (when it fits their agenda, which should also be understood) are available to quote and follow on both sides of this debate. Are the numbers as reported reliable and trustworthy? Do you trust the currency and accounting procedures in every foreign Country? Do you trust the USPS do deliver your mail on time (would your send $1000 cash in an envelope with a First Class stamp)? Data from other countries (and even states here in the US) has been withheld and manipulated. Have words and policies been taken out of context? Is it a one size fits all scenario? In all the discussions of death rates and positivity tests (false or not) there are certainly many contributing factors (and as Pattar alludes, not quite as simple as a basic engineering problem). Death and destruction is not only occurring to those who have contracted Covid-19...it has already and will continue to be the ruin for many. Mental health (suicide, depression, drug and alcohol dependency, etc.) is suffering. Education (and frankly this is happening on a very unequal basis) is falling behind not just on a classroom, academic basis but possibly more sadly the life lessons that are learned by social interaction with peers on the playground, college campuses, athletic facilities, etc.. Failed businesses that have been in families and communities for decades, worsened unemployment numbers and more which again are all contributing to the downward spiral. Division and discontent in society is exploding and it is on a much more fundamentally important than disagreeing on whether a riseball actually rises or which is better linear or rotational hitting. *Note to mods....still related to softball here. Civil discourse, free speech and debate have gone down the tubes in this country as everyone with access to the internet or a TV channel suddenly believes they are an expert. Not everyone who agrees with you is smart/correct just like everyone who disagrees is not an idiot or stupid but man it sure feels that way when all we do is sit behind a keyboard and don't interact with each other on a more open, natural and ahem, human level. There is so much more that should be said and much will likely be written (for years to come) about the impact that this "pandemic" and the way it was handled. Love thy neighbor and use some common sense out there....

NESCAC is allowing spring sports to play an abbreviated season!! So happy for those athletes to be able to play in some capacity!

Why is this thread open when it’s degraded into the equivalent of Fox vs CNN?

Meanwhile the thread simply asking who’s kids kids have contracted Covid outside at softball (which is actually informative and free of politics) is closed down?

We did. California was the first to shut down and they are still closed.
Florida never shut down and they are still open.
I'm no doctor but somethings wrong when a state on full lock down has more deaths as a percentage of population than a state wide open the whole time. Makes ya wonder.

Not sure where you get your info, but Florida did shut down...
