Tagging up question ?

A interesting play happened in the Dodger game today here's the play.
Kiké Hernandez hit a foul pop and first baseman Buster Posey made a juggling catch with his back to the infield. Utley tagged and scored, and although it appeared that he left third base before Posey secured the ball, the Giants’ appeal was met with a safe call from umpire Bill Miller. The way Rick Monday explained it as you can tag up as soon as the ball touches a glove. He said the rule was changed many years ago to stop players from bobbling the ball on purpose to get a unfair advantage kinda like the infield fly rule.

What's the fastpitch rule for this play ?

Runners can advance on first touch of the ball by defense. They do not have to wait for it to actually be secured.

If this was not the rule a fielder could intentionally pop the ball back up to themselves and get a base runner called out for leaving early.

The only thing surprising would be a MLB manager actually appealing this?

On a FP side note, the opposing HS teams parent's went ballistic last week when their LF bobbled a popup for what seemed like 5 minutes before finally hauling it in. Our runner (my DD) from 3B had advanced almost to home before she finally secured it. Home plate ump saw the coach coming and just waved him back to the dugout. SMH!!

In fact it can even be different fielders. Second base has a screaming liner hit at her she gets a glove on it and it pops up in the air and goes out to right field. The Rf catches the ball before it hits the ground. Any runnners on base can tag after it hits the glove of f4.
