Hi all,

We have a couple of questions I'm hoping you can help us with answering.

Our game was called due to darkness just as extra innings were about to start.
When play resumes, can teams substitute with players who were not at the originally played game?
If no, then is it an automatic out when their name comes up in the batting order?

Also, injury...this game had a serious injury in the bottom of the 7th. That player will not be back when play resumes - what happens to his position in the batting order? Can the team substitute for him with a player who wasn't present when the game was first played?

For clarification purposes, please quote the rule that states your claim in the USSA, ASA, or NSA rule book.

Thank you in advance

A suspended game resumes at the exact point where they were stopped (USA Rule 5.3.F). That means exact same lineup and, if anyone was on base, at bat, resumed at that point in the order/inning.

Substitution rules would still apply, so if someone is not available and a rostered player is there that was not originally present, the sub can be added and used (USA rule Rule 4.1.A.2 and rule supplement 51).
