The rolling start os pretty dependent on blue calling it properly, when to dds team has tried that it was not imho called properly quite often.

Especially with one umpire seeing movement,
not necessarily the foot off the bag.

Brings up a good point~
Can one umpire in a game from behind the plate really see a runner comming off first base accurately?!

*Active Catchers/Defense Get Outs !

True!
Not really! (What’s he looking at as pitch is being thrown again?)
Heck yeah!

Foot along outside of bag helps disguise when runner actually leaves bag IMHO. Primarily talking two man ump crew here.

Had a plate ump (2 man crew) call a runner out for leaving early at 1st last summer. 18a decently high level of play. Thought head coach of offensive team was going to have a stroke. Probably because ol’ Mr. Blue was already struggling with his strike zone.

Last weekend, 18u games played,
*no umpires.
After two runners runners got plucked by the catcher.
Another runner took off WAY early...
What happened?
She got thrown out sooner ;)👍
ZAP !

Love it! Runner leaving early is a self correcting problem, lol!

Umpires? We don’t need no stinking umpires, lol!

My daughter is fast but not blazing fast. The thing is she is way faster running the bases than other girls because of technique, decisiveness and aggressiveness. She rarely makes a base running error and her game speed looks faster than girls that would blow her away in a straight away sprint. This sounds like who your daughter is.

My daughter played with a girl that had "DI speed" and she has committed to a DI school. We'll see but I think that her collegiate career may end up being a pinch runner because the "D1 speed" doesn't align with the rest of her game set.

She should be a slapper and learn a better skill set in the outfield.

If these 20-yard sprint times are accurate, every single one of my high school players from a couple years ago would be a below average 10U player. Team speed is not our forte, and I understand even at 10U these numbers represent better athletes/higher level players, but we're not that slow.

It's possible our times aren't perfectly accurate. I've seen some wildly inaccurate times, both from us and others. Over the summer I was watching a travel tryout, and I was timing the home-to-first runs on my own. I could hear the coach call out the numbers. Ours differed by almost half a second sometimes.

Also, I guess there is some value in a straight 20-yard dash time, but I really think I'm now in the camp of wanting to see speed from contact to base. I think from now on I'm going to set up a camera and just record the times after the fact using the timestamp. I'm curious to see if our girls get "faster" doing it this way or if most of our girls really would lose a footrace to a 10 year old.
