*:) Looks like Sluggers did some DFP magic and created a new thread.
Please share your advice too!

This was regarding a previous post on another thread regarding the history of the travel ball process, Top TB coaches, other levels and connecting to colleges.

Top TB Coaches having college connections brings in the stronger talent.
The cycle continues.

Ceratain TB Coaches, that have put in the time, have branched off the old dogs.
With success. Bringing the connection with them.
Now the college connection has more connections.

This same situation happens at all levels of college and travel ball. Not all with the same talent level or level of success.

Now with more showcasing opportunities. More opportunity to reach goals....
When a travel ball coach says
Colleges contact them...
The discussion should be for the travel athlete.~
"What colleges contact you?"
"What level D1,2,3, naia, juco-
Is the talent level of you'r team and what showcasing events do you attend?"
( without an athletes family being aware of differences, this needs understanding to find the right fit for their goal)
*All this being said
98% of all the work needed to connect with a college needs to be done by the ATHLETE !!!

These different goals create
a lot of interesting conversation!!
That gets discussed here on DFP all the time.

Often confusing and baffling up-incomming younger families trying to figure it out.
Whats a good fit for a goal they are only becomming familiar with.
Some Travel ball coaches are also unaware of the bigger picture ...adding to the situation.

The bigger picture is not always obvious to see.
Navigating thru does take some research. Imo.....

RAD is a catching/hitting coach in SoCal. She works with some of the best talent in the US.
She is an authority on recruiting.

Unfortunately, families don't understand this. I had a mom tell me she is too busy to do the work, and she would pay me to contact the coaches. I told her No Way! Your player needs to do the work and research. I am happy to help your players along the process, but I am not going to put myself out there unless I know the player is really interested in that school.

*Even with the exposure and assistance of ANY travel coach.
Even top tier teams...
98% ATHLETE needs to put in the work!

College Coaches need confirmation of the athletes ability, academics and application to connecting with colleges.
The athlete directly being involved in the process gives the coach more information on the individuals personality and ability to follow through.
It is a great way to demonstrate commitment to details!
