I was just estimating how many miles per year I drive for softball. I don't reccomend this activity

I purchased a new car in 2006, the year DD started playing softball and in 2008 I purchased a new truck. Both vehicles had 0 miles on them and now both are within 250 miles of 90,000 for a total of 180,000 miles in 5 years. My wife and I commute together 24 miles round trip 5 days per week which is 6,240 miles per year. If I conservatively add another 8,760 miles per year for non softball related driving that's 15,000 non softball miles per year.

180,000 total miles devided by 5 years is 36,000 miles per year. Subtract 15,000 miles per year....

WOW, I drive 21,000 miles per year for softball?!?!?!

If you work those numbers even further... and give yourself 8 hours of sleep a day. and avergae 60 mph..... you have about 33 days of time in your car/truck....

Are you sure you didn't buy too small of tires and the odometer is ticking at an accelerated rate? ;)

OK, let’s see…

This fall, 5 times from NorCal to SoCal, 1,000 miles round trip (not including driving 25 miles each way to the fields on Friday, Saturday and Sunday) 5,000 miles; once to San Jose 400 miles round trip.

HS ball in spring, 26 to 30 games with drives from 1 mile to 150 miles one way (most are within 30 miles) so average 40 miles round trip for 28 games is 1,120.

Summer, once to Colorado, 2200 miles round trip (again not counting travel from hotel to fields every day). Once to Portland Oregon, 1100 miles round trip; five times to SoCal, 5,000 miles.

9 months of the year, 3 times per week, 50 miles round trip to practice and lessons is about 6,000 miles.

5,000 + 400 + 1,120 + 2,200 + 1,100 + 5,000 + 6,000 = 20,820

Add in the mileage from hotel to fields and – well – crap, I drive a lot of miles for softball.

This is why I buy a hail car from the insurance auction. I get the car for about 1/2 price, and if it gets hit at the ball park, unless it gets glass, no big deal. Take my time over the winter to fix it and sell it, and start all over again in the spring.
