Yeah. It’s basketball time for dd now in HS, so she’s not throwing during the week. Our winter workouts have started up so she’s just starting to get some reps in since our last showcase in early November. Several camps coming up so it’s a good time for her to start back up.

Playing whichever sport is in season is great if you like playing JV and/or want to attend a D3 school. We all know a phenom who excels in multiple sports, particularly at smaller schools. I think my son is more typical of the multi-sport athlete. He’s at a school of 2,000 kids and teams are highly competitive. He’s on JV football, rec basketball and JV lacrosse. He’s perfectly happy and wants to be a “normal” student when he gets to college. DD chose a different path and is perfectly happy as well. It all depends on the kid.

Got into a big argument with someone online...

They spent most of December posting about how players need to be involved in multiple sports, take 2 months off to rest and reset and so on and so forth...

Two days ago they posted their multi-day tryout starting yesterday, a four day a week practice schedule and pretty much every weekend tourney schedule starting Jan 4 and extending through August - along with a 'How do you expect your daughter to be on the field in March is all she is doing is taking selfies in December' meme, a long diatribe on how you have to work harder than the next person and "when you are on the couch, your opponent is on the field' sign off....

Pointing out that these two things are mutually exclusive apparently showed my complete misunderstanding of whatever it is they were trying to convey.
So what was the point you were arguing? That time off and multiple sports is good. The overloaded schedule is good? Or that the same person can't post both of these positions?

I saw that meme. And without fail everyone who posted it has a kid who is a slacker.
It's was comedic justice.
Surely you jest. You know my kids going D1! Lol I posted that MEME at 3 AM reading about crazy parents. Good stuff to read for comic relief and it makes me tired.

All students have to play a sport each season at DD’s school. It’s required. There is no physical education class during her school day. Dd plays JV tennis and basketball, and varsity softball. She has no desire to tryout for varsity for tennis or BB as she knows she can’t put in the amount of time necessary to excel, nor could she make the required weekend practices due to her commitment to softball. She wants to play softball in college as long as the college fits her academically, be it DI, II, or III.

Hey 625...

You left one out that is part of the reason for this thinking, is those parent who DID play a sport and grew up with the old mentality that you play all you can... only breaks might have been Christmas and the month after nationals. Now these teams are having tryouts the week after they get back from nationals because they're worried another team will beat them to the best players.

We go year round but DD is a pitcher and now on a break from throwing. We give her 3-5 weeks off in the winter. Problem is that once fall season is over all of the camps start. Gotta wedge that break in between camps. Once she commits (hopefully this summer) we won't be hitting camps and she can get a real break. That said her practices are once a week with fielding, hitting, strength and conditioning and live hitting. She also hits another day during the week and goes to a gym another 2-3 days a week. It's a full time job.
Yeah, that college camp schedule can throw a monkey wrench into physical recovery time. DD attended several last winter; the girls are throwing as hard as they can for several hours straight to impress coaches. She went into the Spring HS season with a sore elbow as a result (first time ever) and needed professional therapy to recover. On the bright side, she's much more educated about arm health now.
