My heart goes out to all the seniors whose college sports careers just came to an end. Even if a year of eligibility is restored or granted, a vast majority of them will not need/use it. They were there to get a degree. It's absolutely over for them.

There will probably be some senior day like ceremonies, but it will be even more bittersweet than usual.

Reasons for cancelling
Consideration to health, Liability & Revenue.
Respectfully thinking if its a consideration to health,
Closing some schools and not all is peculiar.
Closing the campus, and going to online is reasonable. But then to have teams interacting contradics reasoning to limit social contact.
Leaves liability & revenue to be discussed.
Postpone before cancelling. See how it plays out

Public health concerns are one thing, but you cannot completely stop living your life because of this virus. Whether anyone likes it or not, this virus cannot be contained. It has already spread to too many states. The average age that somebody dies from this virus is 80 years old – that is, somebody with a compromised or weakened immune system. The mortality rate is 3%, and that is comprised of people with compromised immune systems, respiratory illness, or chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

This is getting absolutely insane. The big national chain, market basket, Inc., Had to close some of their doors as the fire department had instructed them not to have a capacity greater than 200 people. Seriously folks, have you ever seen 200 people in a grocery store?

The real danger is not slowing the spread and overwhelming the healthcare system.

In areas where this has happened the mortality rate is around 1% which for frame of reference is 10 time the mortality rate of the seasonal flu.

In areas where it didn't happen, like Italy early on for example, the healthcare system was overwhelmed and the mortality rate was closer to 5% or roughly 50 times the mortality rate of seasonal flu.

The closest comp we have on recent record is the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic which has a similar mortality rate as COVID-19 so far and that infected a third of the planet and killed between 50 and 100 Million people.

Here in Colorado, USSSA just shut down tourneys until April 4. Our board is a P&R board, and they’ve said no practice or coaching until then. Colorado High Schools doing the same thing.

Aside from 9-11 and my dad dying, between this stuff and the stock market it’s been about as bad a week as I can remember.

Seems like usssa, etc have a little more room to wait it out. Those tournies/teams aren’t tied to players being in school. Hard to play NCAA games when schools are closed/online
