The flight of a rise is low to high. The ball slowly starts to flatten out creating a hump over the bat. That’s a rise out of the zone.

If I try to throw under a string it would be a low rise. What about practicing a high rise with a string? How far in front would ideally set the string for both low and high and do you practice different heights with the string?

Like the replay video
with detail added.

Definitely makes the rise ball more useful to be able to throw it at different heights with location to the sides.

We practice the rise at three different levels. 2 strings are set up approx 10' in front of the plate, string 1 is set up around 20" above the ground, string 2 is set up just below DD's sternum (she's 5'5"). For us, a level 1 rise goal is hitting the bottom string, level 2 goal is hitting or just below the second string, level 3 rise is the out of the zone pitch above the top string but close enough to make a batter chase. In games, she throws mainly level 2 & 3's but has occasionally been asked to throw at level 1, which has had a majority of batters watching because they were expecting it to drop out of the zone.
