My DD has been experiencing pain in her rhomboid, she just finished up 6 months of pt, as well as 3 months of No pitching which helped but it’s not completely gone. Has anyone else’s DD experienced this, what helped it makes me think she is doing something mechanically that is causing it.

I would say that if she still feels discomfort at this point, she needs to follow up with the doctor who ordered the PT. Any time PT is completed but discomfort is still present, it warrants a follow-up visit. Could be any multitude of causes from shoulder joint issue, neck issue, posture issue, etc that might require further diagnostic testing.

Sorry to hear that she’s having discomfort - hopefully you’ll get some answers after following up with her doctor. If not, consider a second opinion.

DD had a lot of rhomboid issues before she switched from HE to IR. Wall stretches, corner stretches, neck stretches, and several others helped. Scapula movement exercises seemed to help a lot, IMO.

Do you have a list of exercises and stretches that seemed to help the most?

Right now I’m trying to figure out if the pain is from not pitching for 3 months and just soreness from that, before I take her back to a dr.

To add to this, she initially went to the dr and pt because her shoulder blade would pop and rub in her ribs. This isn’t happening, this is really what she was in pt for.

Working with Board-Certified Sports Medicine & Joint Specialist is the right place to be. Places like Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies provides the full range of sports medicine.

Mine had scalp imbalance/stress knots. She and her trainer/pt trainer focused on building the scaps as well as the chest and deltoids. All those muscles are connected and it was said her pain in her rhomboid (stress knots) was do to her arm coming across her body stretching her shoulder capsule and pulling all those fibers. She also had me message gun her after each game.

I just wanted to give an update to this and what worked for my DD. After talking to a dad on here, and dad I know personally stretches were suggested.

So I told my DD who was just as frustrated as I was with it, that for the next 2 weeks we were going to do stretches and a few exercises that targeted rhomboid pain. So after doing them for a week, she was able to make it through a pitching clinic with zero pain. We continued doing them, and she’s made it through lessons with no pain, where before we’d have to stop 30 to 45 minutes in. Right now she’s pitching with no pain in the high school season, and we still continue to do the stretches and a 30 minute sports massage once a month as a preventative.

It’s stupid how something so simple can fix what seems like the most major thing.

Where in the Rhomboid is the pain? If you could post a video that would help alot. Does it hurt when she throws overhand?
