Hi,
DD is a first year 14U. When she pitches after push off both feet come off the ground. It's been a few years of having this happen and she was finally called in a game late last summer. With the new season coming up we have pitched some and still having an issue with it.

Anyone know any drills to help her make her drag her push off foot?

Thank you

What is the cause? Need video to properly diagnose. For some girls it's a pause on the arm circle. For others it's jumping more up than out. For some it's having the weight too far forward during the push off.

My favorite is to have her do drive drills on a carpet wearing only socks or in bare feet. She should really be able to feel the drag that way.

There are lots of possible reasons for a problem with leaping, but this drill will help her feel if she is getting off the ground or not. As to why she is leaping, I often see girls who turn their hips so far that they rotate their foot right off the ground. When they start the drag it is on the side of the foot rather than the nail of the big toe.

Have her wear an old pair of socks and pitch in the dirt. She should be able to feel the lack of a drag that way.
Then have her focus on a “snail trail” that shows her dragging her back foot (toe) properly.

When my DD was younger she looked really good but would not drag her toe. Her heel would be down and toe up. Simple told her to raise your heel and point your toe down. Raise your heel worked. We would also drag a paper plate. She wasn't to high off the ground that she couldn't but didn't.

My daughter started pitching last year and we had the same issue. We spent three weeks correcting.
The method we used was placing a rag across the front of the mound and if the toe didn’t drag it was obvious, The rag would remain in front of the mound. Good Luck!
