People are driving the distance to play.

Noticing this happening~
Hearing of a few 'scrimmage games' happening with ump's hear in so cal...
At 'independent' fields.
Also
While most fields /complexes locally do not have games or tournys
Tournaments held 5-6 hours away are drawing families to play.
Includes staying at hotels.
Some in state some out of state.

The bizarre'ness is exposing itself.

How far are you'all driving?

Our 18U team has shuffled schedule, and found some great 23U competition in central PA where we are based.
We get back into bona fide showcases in late-July/early-August.
And, of course, PGF - if it plays as scheduled....

We've opened up fields here in NC, even before SC (which opened up "business" before us). VA is still on the red tide lockdown. I swear, at least half of the teams in the tournament this past weekend were from VA. Both 14u and HS. Tournament was sold out. Small LL complexes out in the middle of nowhere are getting some great money! Too bad those large city complexes don't care about profit.

Central Indiana
We drove 4 hours to play in Kentucky this past Saturday. Was a great tournament filled with some of the best teams in the Midwest. After playing 4 games got home at 2:30am, to play some scrimmages the next day. The drive was totally worth it.

Indiana is back open now so we have a tournament this weekend, just 8 minutes from our house, so that's nice.

Actual distance isn’t too far, but we are in Chicago area and playing in Wisconsin/Iowa/Wisconsin for 3 straight weekends beginning June 26th. Potential Indiana tournament at the end of July.
Iowa one is only one with hotels. Hour drive each way for 3 straight days isn’t ideal, but it’s the only way we can play tournaments.

14U. We are not traveling. When the governor and local officials gave the go ahead for Phase I, we resumed team practices going on three weeks ago. Since we went to Phase II on 12 June (up to 50 people in outdoor setting), we have played a friendly double header against another local travel team and have others scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday. We are forming a competitive league with a host of other local travel teams--with play through the end of July--and do not plan on traveling out of our local area to play this summer. Not sure what we are going to do this fall yet.

Some (self-proclaimed) higher-level 14U travel clubs in the area have traveled to Richmond or out of state (e.g., the Carolinas) to go to tournaments, which seem to be played without restriction. Don't believe we would have unanimity on our team about doing this right now.

From Chicago. Have played in Wisconsin and as far as Kansas. Nothing in Illinois. Hopefully Indiana soon!

Southern California
Our rec league's 8U all-star team in California is driving 4.5 hours to Arizona to play in a tournament at the end of June because parks aren't open yet (despite friendlies happening left and right). I was told there are at least 10 other So Cal rec leagues sending their teams.

So far DD's team (first year 12U) has stayed in the State (OK) for all the tournaments. We will be driving 8 or so hours to Iowa for USSSA "Nationals" on the 7th of July.
