This is kind of an odd question, but above Dustin mentioned she needs to use more of her lower half with throwing. She has been working on the same with hitting, needing to get more power out of her hips and legs. She's a strong kid and competes in powerlifting competitions, so the strength is there. Will learning how to get more power out of her lower half for throwing also help her with hitting? Does that make sense?

Just like Lemond said..... the loading pattern of throwing and hitting are very very similar. The sequence of the loading pattern mirror each other very closely. The main difference is while throwing there isn’t much of a timing restraint like compared to hitting. So therefore the “weight” can shift a little earlier while throwing and still get a good throw off...... I digress if you follow the hitting forums at all you will read about shifting then swinging (bad while hitting not as a big deal while throwing)....... Some say the only difference is, with one you are throwing a ball and the other is throwing a bat. A good observation between throwing and hitting while watching video of the best. Is to consider the elbow of the throwing arm, the hands of the hitter..... So therefore the foreman and hand of the throwers arm would be the bat of the hitter and vice versa (IMO easiest seen watching side arm or submariner throws/throwers)

Does anyone have good slow motion video or pictures of overhand throwing? My DD is getting different advise from different coaches and I don't want to do a random Google search as I know there is misinformation out there.

I looked through both the throwing and model fielding stickys but they're from 2011 and most of the pictures and links are no longer valid.

You can check out www.HighLevelThrowing.com or our Vimeo Page in which we have hundreds of training/throwing videos for softball players!

High Level Throwing by Austin Wasserman is the modern bible of proper throwing mechanics. Any coach trying to teach the "L" drill or wrist flicks is wrong. His book is expensive, but he has some good free stuff. Checking out this link as well as the many free videos on YouTube.

Thank you. I have been to the High Level Throwing site before, I was hoping he had a section like "new to throwing" or "review of the basics" so I could see a demonstration/explanation of all the components together but I couldn't find anything like that there.

Are there different mechanics for baseball and softball throwing or are they the same?

Hi!

We have plenty of free articles and e-books on www.highlevelthrowing.com. Send me an email to discuss. Thanks!

Trying to see if we can convince him to come out this way. He was in NorCal in Dec, but could not make it up that far that weekend.

I can't imagine it would be hard to get enough people in LA or SD areas to fill up his classes (Needs 40 ish). Part of it is that no one in CA is willing to admit that they have anything to learn about throwing (or just about anything for that matter).

Hi!

I've been asked to come out to CA multiple times but the only organization that has followed through are the Cal State Dirt Dogs. Great experience and fun sessions. Send me an email at support@wassermanstrength.com for more information regarding our HLT Clinics and to get on our schedule. We are booked out through June 2020. Thanks!
