That's what I thought. Your qualifier tourney comment threw me for a loop (not hard to do). So, you think the pros will have qualifier tourneys? That'd be fun to watch in person!

well would there be a bunch of teams trying to win a tournament to rep their country or would a bunch of countries send a team each to a tournament to win a berth in Olympics or both ?

Not quite, it is the IOC all berths will be bought and paid for.

The International Softball Federation is the recognized body, that has morphed into the World Baseball Softball Confederation, so I imagine they will have regional qualifying events, maybe a bye for the World champion but it will be just like any other qualifying process I imagine. Pros are eligible and actually encouraged, they especially want pro baseball players to play baseball (but given $$ on the line in August chances are almost zero...oddly the only chance to get pros to play would be making it a winter sport).
