So when DD started HS, we got a new SB coach. He seemed okay but we always had a little hard time talking to him or figuring him out. It seemed he had his favorites and if you weren't one of those, it'd always be a guessing game on if you'd play. And a lot of girls said after last season they didn't want to come back but eventually everyone convinced each other to try. And DD's EOS meeting with him she said was good. We found out a month or so ago that he'd be moving and was taking a job somewhere else and so we'd been looking for a new coach. And we did get one and she's actually a former SB player who played in college and we also got a few other girl coaches for assistants.
So because of the late timing on this - they had to have tryouts just recently - most schools had them weeks ago. DD missed the original dates (this past Fri/Sat) due to an out of state tournament. So because so many girls were going to miss, they had makeup tryouts this Mon/Tues.
So DD is quite shy - but when she met the coach - she even told her her nickname which EVERYONE calls her (except her old coach). There are actual people who only know her by her nickname. And it seems this coach actually started calling her that too. And she seems to actually remember her already and asking her things. And DD is even volunteering to do drills first. And DD never caught in HS but they were down a catcher at tryouts so she went to her car to get her gear to help. This is so out of character for my kid. And it's sooo nice to hear DD talk excitedly about HS softball again. Kind of stinks this is her last year but I hope this means we will have a good last season.
