not a bad defense by the coach, and entirely plausible

i have my girls sweep away the previous pitch with their foot in the dirt.....i actually like the idea of choosing their own 'reset button', and i am entirely stealing this

Plausible, yes. Decent message, yes. Sounds like a good, caring coach.

Time to carry the message a bit further and help his players understand that if your ritual even remotely looks like you're breaking a rule, change your ritual.

I know many people that have a ritual of flicking away their troubles with a little middle finger stretch, or a loud guttural expulsion that sounds like muffling the word "truck" a bit. These may be completely aimed at something they have internalized as their own mistakes, but we don't allow them to happen outwardly on the field.

Just another umpire that thought it was his turn to be bigger than the game. The umpire needs to check his ego at the door.

So if that's a strike, which I think it's too close to take with two strikes, then what is this?
